About

Mission and Vision
OpenPRA ORG Inc. is an open-source initiative building the next generation of probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) tools and methods. We integrate diverse PRA techniques into a unified, user-friendly framework, promoting transparency, quality, and accessibility in safety analysis. Our mission is to empower decision-makers with clear insights into complex system risks. We welcome contributions of software, data, and ideas from researchers, industry, and regulators worldwide.
We hope to provide an open and transparent public forum to disseminate information, independently review new ideas, and spread the word. We want to emphasize an openness that will lead to methods and software with higher quality, lead to better understanding of PRA models, encourage peer review, and allow the transportability of models and methods.
What We Do
- Software Development: We develop and maintain free, open-source PRA software and libraries. Our team builds a unified analytical environment that supports hybrid PRA models and scalable simulations. We also provide user-friendly web interfaces and tools to help engineers compute and visualize risk insights easily.
- Model Standardization: We create and promote standard data models and formats for PRA so different tools can interoperate. For example, we are defining a universal, software-independent representation for PRA models to ensure consistency and portability. Our methods include automatic generation of PRA models from system engineering descriptions (MBSE).
- Education and Community: We empower the next generation of PRA practitioners through training and community outreach. We host webinars and collaborative forums to share knowledge of PRA methods and tools.
Our Principles
- Transparency and Openness: We operate in an open, transparent manner — sharing data, software, and methods publicly. This ensures that risk models can be independently reviewed and understood by all stakeholders.
- Collaboration and Inclusivity: We maintain a non-competitive, community-driven approach that welcomes contributions from researchers, industry, and regulators. Working together globally accelerates innovation and trust in PRA.
- Accessibility: All our tools, models, and documentation are free and open-source, lowering barriers to entry for anyone interested in PRA. We aim to make complex risk assessment accessible to a wide audience.
- Quality and Rigor: We adhere to rigorous engineering standards and encourage peer review. By emphasizing open development and review, we improve the reliability and completeness of PRA models.
Our Supporters
